About Xlam

We’re a privately owned manufacturer with facilities across Australia and New Zealand – making it easier and faster to get supplies to site. As Australasia’s first CLT (cross-laminated timber) manufacturer, we’re leading the way in making mass timber accessible.

Since 2010, XLAM have been at forefront of CLT and GLT manufacturing in the southern hemisphere, completing more than 1,000 builds spanning aged care, commercial, education, commercial, industrial, and residential applications.

2010

The first CLT provider in the southern hemisphere

XLAM broke new ground, pioneering CLT production in New Zealand, the first of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

2012

XLAM joins the Hyne Group

As part of the Hyne Group, XLAM enjoys secure access to high quality raw materials from Hyne Timber’s local sawmills.

2016

Innovative System of Sustainable Design awarded by ATDA

University of Tasmania Inveresk Student Residences is recognised by ATDA with an Engineered Timber Products Award.

2018

Australian CLT production

The commissioning of a state-of-the-art automated 16,000m³ Wodonga site adds serious CLT manufacturing capacity.

2018

Plant and Food Research Centre in Nelson recognized with Timber Design Award

After earning the NZ Wood Resene Timber Award for Excellence in Engineered Wood Products, the Seafood Research Centre for Plant and Food Research was awarded the Timber Design Award in Engineered Wood Products.

2019

Winner of the Australian Timber Design Awards

Seed House recognised as the Overall Winner of the Australian Timber Design Awards, celebrating experimentation in construction and engineering and the application of sustainable materials.

2019

Australia’s largest timber residential tower delivered

Successful delivery of 9 Lambert Street in Kangaroo Point, Brisbane. At the time, the 10 storey tower was the largest mass timber residential tower in the southern hemisphere.

2020

$24M GLT facility is commissioned

Investment in a brand new GLT production site positions the business as the biggest manufacturer of GLT in Australasia.

2021

Awards recognise Royd Clan’s House

An outstanding example of residential architecture, the Royd Clan’s House wins the 2021 Australian Timber Design Awards, 2021 BLT Built Design Awards, and 2021 World Architecture Community Awards.

2022

XLAM joins the James Jones & Sons family

The Hyne Group is acquired by global wood products leader, James Jones & Sons. The Scottish based business is recognised as one of the most innovative and efficient timber producers in Europe.

2022

Australia’s first mass timber fire station completed

Recognising the unique fire performance of mass timber, Australia’s first ever mass timber constructed fire station is completed in Maryborough, Queensland.

2024

Timber components arrive on site for Air New Zealand’s Hangar 4

On its completion in early 2025, Air New Zealand’s new flagship hangar — Hangar 4 in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland — will be the largest single-span timber arch aircraft hangar in the southern hemisphere.

NZ’s Scion Hub crowned ‘World’s Most Iconic Build’

New Zealand’s Te Whare Nui o Tuteata has been awarded with 20+ international design awards and successfully awarded the Dubai International Best Practices Award for Sustainable Development.

A true leader in CLT production, our manufacturing sites reflect global best practice in mass timber production.

XLAM’s 16,000m2 automated manufacturing facility in Wodonga and production site in Auckland have the capacity to reliably supply 60,000m3 of CLT each year. As XLAM is a part of the Hyne Group, our production sites benefit from the security of raw materials supplied by sister business, Hyne Timber which provides reliable access to high-quality timber for our presses.

Panels produced can measure up to 16m long and 3.4m wide, making them ideal for single storey, mid-rise and high-rise applications. Production sites are fitted with CNC machines for optimum precision and detailed finishing.
